The Legend of Lord Baltimore
Before the Lord Baltimore Hotel rose in brick and brass, there lived a man of restless imagination and daring: Lord Nigel Baltimore. He built machines that bent light, bottled laughter, and carried whispers across wires, yet his boldest vision was to master time itself.
One winter’s evening, in conversation with his friend H. G. Wells, he heard of a contrivance that might travel through centuries. The thought ignited his mind. He set to work in the workshops beneath his hotel, surrounded by sparks, sketches, and soot.
Early trials were clumsy. A teacup disappeared and returned coated in frost. A watch froze mid-tick. His eyebrows did not survive one particularly spirited test. Yet with persistence came success.
He forged a governor to tame the seconds, copper coils to channel aetheric power, and at last, the Chronometric Conveyance awoke.
Lord Baltimore swore he would not merely mark the turn of the year but celebrate it across all ages. His first destination: 2026, where his hotel still stands and his city greets a new century’s dawn.
Thus was born the legend of the Time Traveler’s Ball, where voyagers from every era gather to honor invention, imagination, and the eternal promise of a new year.
